Founded in 2006, it works with the most marginalised and disadvantaged individuals, including those with drug and alcohol addictions. It operates three projects in Bratislava, including a night shelter providing food and a place to sleep for over 150 homeless people. It also provides longer term accommodation in two hostels, in which around 50 homeless people are given counselling and support to help them rebuild their lives. It is now also expanding medical care for homeless people, currently offered through a dispensary in the city centre. Overall, DPS helps more than 1,300 people each year.

Depaul Slovensko is part of Depaul International (DPI), a group of charities that work to support homeless and marginalised people around the world. The Depaul Group currently works in the UK, Ireland, Slovakia, Ukraine, the USA and France, and manages over 70 different projects providing shelter, food, medical care and a place of safety for over 12,000 people each year.

Depaul Slovensko has achieved significant growth since it began, and has ambitious plans to develop its work. During 2014, reconstruction of its largest project, the St Vincent’s Night Shelter, will take place, which will enable better services in the future. New project areas include development of a social enterprise and consideration of how DPS can meet the needs of particularly vulnerable groups, as well as exploring the potential to work in other cities. DPS also aims to expand its fundraising and build a more diverse funding base.

As Depaul Slovensko has grown, the requirements for the Director have grown, and there is now a need for additional full-time capacity at this level. The post of Deputy Director will provide this.
